Information and Recommendations Regarding Water and Sewer Service

Fluoride

The water plant adds a very small amount of chlorine but no fluoride.  It is recommended that you consult your family dentist about providing children with additional fluoride because less than 0.2 parts per million occurs naturally in the water.

General Recommendations

  • Use a home water softener

  • Use a whole house water filter and change the filter every two months

  • Conserve water because it is a limited resource and it costs money to process it through our system

Sanitary Sewer System

Our treatment plant discharges output into the Huron River.  As a result, we must meet stringent federal and state water standards.  Please use the following precautions with our system:

  • Minimize the use of phosphates in the house and outside

  • Do not use mercury thermometers or other hazardous chemicals because they could contaminate our plant

  • Do not allow children to flush objects such as diapers and plastic objects down the sewer

  • Avoid planting trees near sewer lines because they will eventually cause costly blockages

  • Do not discharge sump pump output or roof gutter water into the sanitary sewer system (the sanitary sewer system is not designed to handle storm or ground water)

Problems with the Water Service

When you have service problems, we recommend the following:

Red water
  • Avoid using hot water until it clears up.

  • Run cold water from the tap that is the lowest in the house.

  • If the water does not clear up in 30 minutes, call the plant operator at 1-800-776-1731.

  • Drain two buckets of water from the hot water heaters every two months.

No or low water pressure
  • Check out house filter and softener.

  • If your filter is okay, call the plant operator.

  • If you observe a sewer backup or a major water leak anywhere, call the plant operator.

If you are unable to reach a plant operator in a reasonable time, call LASA board member, Neil Gerl at 426-2934 or Bill Ince at 426-8659.
