New speed bumps — To be or not to be, that is the question.....

At its October 1st meeting, the Board was presented with a petition by Nancy Elder.

The petition, which was signed by 25 residents from 19 properties, expressed concerns about speeders driving around “the sharp curve between Lots 102 and 117 on East Loch Alpine” in spite of a “slow children” sign. There apparently has been an automobile collision on this stretch of road and the petitioners report that a number of close calls with pedestrians have occurred.

The petition mentions a second area of concern at the intersection of Sylvan and Woodland Drive. Apparently, speeders going down these roads have been involved in three auto collisions. It was pointed out that Sylvan is often icy in cold weather and that traffic through this intersection is higher than might be expected since it is used as a short cut.

To remediate these two problems, the petitioners suggest that the missing stop sign at Sylvan and Woodland be replaced with a three way stop and that speed bumps be installed at both locations. The number of bumps was not specified, but the implied number was four or more.

What do you think? The Safety & Security Committee would like to get some feedback from the neighborhood.

I just want to say that I love the speed bumps on e. Loch Alpine near Eastgate. I live on the corner and used to hear cars speeding by in the middle of the night and now they don't. I think there are 1 too many on Eastgate and a few too many on Aberdeen.
