Trimming Roadside Vegetation

In July, members of the Safety & Security Committee cruised through the streets of Loch Alpine to note areas where vegetation along the sides of our roads obscured lines of sight.  This is a particular concern at bends and curves in the roads.  Tree limbs and undergrowth can block lines of sight through the curves and bends, making it difficult to see pedestrians, bicyclists and cars just around the corner.  Consequently, there have been some close misses between cars and between vehicles and pedestrians.  In some cases, overhanging limbs create obstacles that buses and delivery trucks must avoid by pulling into the center of the road – another potential encounter with oncoming traffic.

The list of sight line obstructions is now on the Loch Alpine website at LA-Obstructed-Views-Summary.pdf.  Please take a look to see if along your lot there is vegetation encroaching on the road.  We would greatly appreciate residents’ help in removing obstructive growth and overhanging limbs.  The Grounds Committee will be sending a contractor out to clear many of the sight lines noted in the report, so if you have concerns about anything noted in the list in front of your lot, let us know NOW.  Email lochalpinesafety@gmail.com.
