Board of Directors- The Board members are elected by residents of Loch Alpine to oversee the Loch Alpine Improvement Association (LAIA). Elections are held annually, usually in March at the General Meeting. Terms are 2 years. The LAIA is responsible to overseeing the upkeep of the grounds, snow removal, tree trimming, removing fallen limbs, ditch cleaning, restriction violations and general good neighborliness. The Board also oversees community adherence to restrictions, care of lakes, architectural control, upkeep of roads and grounds. A listing of Board positions and current members is included in each Lore newsletter. Board meetings are held on a monthly basis. Minutes of these meetings are distributed to all homeowners.
Loch Alpine Office & Bookkeeper- Lynette Brice is Loch Alpine's office manager and bookkeeper and she handles billings of Association dues (yearly dues are set by vote at annual meeting.) She also keeps a record of new residents and residents who move from the area. The LAIA office can be contacted with any concerns, ideas, or praise regarding the Board or Loch Alpine grounds, etc. To contact the Loch Alpine Office, call 426-2161 (days) and 424-1374 (night & weekends. Our web site is www.lochalpine.org. Please note that any concerns regarding speeding cars, vandalism, etc. should be directed to the police by dialing 911.
LAIA Committees- There are a number of active community committees in Loch Alpine and we urge you to become involved as much as possible. A list of some of these committees includes: Lakes and Dams, Safety, Long-Range Planning, Roads, Social, Grounds, Architectural Control and Welcoming. If you have an interest in any of the above, please contact a Board member for further details.
Lore- The Lore is the official Loch Alpine newsletter and it is published every two months, from October through June. It contains a calendar of events and articles regarding neighborhood groups, activities, messages from the Board, etc. It also includes a listing of new residents.
A directory is given to every homeowner when they move in and again when they are updated (currently that is every two years.) There is no fee for this directory. If you would like additional copies please call the Loch Alpine Office at 426-2161
Garden Club- The club belongs to the Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan, and is a group of dedicated gardeners holding monthly meetings. There are guest speakers, presentations, and field trips. They maintain the front entrance gardens off Huron River Drive.
Loch Alpine Welcoming Committee- This committee has been on hiatus for several years, and is now back in operation! The function of this committee, besides welcoming the newcomers to Loch Alpine, is to assist in helping those new to this area learn about Loch Alpine itself and all it offers, the surrounding community of Dexter and to some extent Ann Arbor. The Committee will host periodic welcoming gatherings where the newcomers who have moved into Loch Alpine within the past few months will have an opportunity to meet other newcomers and some “old time” residents as well.
Other- Bible Study and Book Groups are also active in our community. You can either join existing clubs or simply start up your own – the chances are that you will always find someone to share your interests in such a varied and vibrant community as ours
L.A. Garage Sale- Each spring (usually on a Saturday in May) Loch Alpine Homeowners have their individual garage sales. With everyone having it on the same day, we get much more “business” as well as a great chance to wander the neighborhood and meet the neighbors who are out either “shopping for treasures” or home trying to pass theirs on to someone else! It’s a fun day (and sometimes profitable.)
Fourth-of-July Celebration- The Fourth-of-July Celebration is for all family members. Past events have included a parade, children’s games, canoe races, a baseball game, picnic dinner and fireworks in the evening at the “main” park.
Halloween- trick or treating occurs October 31st from 5-7 pm
The Luminaria- A beautiful tradition in Loch Alpine that started several years ago. On Christmas Eve Loch Alpine residents interested in creating a lighted display along the street in front of their homes light candles (which are inserted in bags of sand) and line their frontage with these luminaria. The entranceways are also lined with these lights. The materials (candles, bags and sand) are available for purchase with details posted in the Lore. The putting together of the materials, distribution and sale are all community efforts which make for fun times. The entranceways are decorated by another group of volunteer residents. The profits made from the sales of candles, etc. are used for the benefit of the residents. Some examples of purchases made in the past include the children’s playground equipment in the park and the water fountain at the park.
